[edit] Early Life

Nathan Cody Kessey was born and raised in rural Fairbanks, Alaska, attending the local Montessori school, in lieu of traditional preschool and kindergarten education. He began playing the violin at age 4, then the guitar at age 12, and while attending Lathrop High School, formed a band, Serum, with high-school friends Jerry Leonhart, Silas Hoffman, and Chris Swaim. During these years he worked with local organizations FDA and FLOT, acting in community theatre and high school productions. He studied music, theater and dramatic arts at the UAF Summer Fine Arts Camp from 1994 through 1997.

While attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and with new drummer Jov Luke, the group released several EPs, and a full-length album, which brought moderate radio airplay on a few radio stations, and some attention from record labels such as Boston's Naked Ear Records, just before the group disbanded in 2000. During this time Cody became known as an evening radio personality on FM station KKED, 104.7 "The Edge," and as the morning show host on KAKQ "Magic," 101.1.

[edit] Music

After moving to Sacramento, California in 2002, Cody attended California State University, Sacramento, and formed the group Another Single Day (originally named "Southpaw"), with Casey Fowler and John Marshall. The hard alternative rock act was picked up by indie label Quasitone Records, and first enjoyed success with a self-titled demo in late 2003.[1]

The band played throughout Northern California, releasing several demos and radio singles, but no full length studio album. The band's single "Overground," was chosen by Mark Gilmore for inclusion on KRXQ 98 Rock's "Sacramento Rocks Volume 12" compilation CD,[2] which featured 22 local bands; a nonprofit compilation, to benefit the Mustard Seed School for Homeless Children[3]

In October 2006, the band won the "Stammy" award for "Northern California's best Hard Rock Band," [4] and were featured in the Stockton newspaper, "The Record," before disbanding in 2007.

[edit] Radio

Beginning in the late 1990's, while attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Cody hosted a 2-hour Sunday afternoon radio show on the college station, KSUA. Shortly thereafter, he was hired on to the local rock station KKED, 104.7 "The Edge," and took over as morning drive host on KAKQ "Magic," 101.1.

While attending CSUS in 2002, he was hired as a commercial producer and radio personality at alternative rock station KWOD 106.5fm in Sacramento. After the station was bought by Entercom, he shifted to over to Top 40 KDND, 107.9 "The End."

Cody continued to voice and produce commercials for the two stations, as well as Sports Talk station KCTC, Active Rock station KRXQ, Classic Rock station KSEG, and Smooth Jazz station KSSJ, through 2007.
